Training for residential children's homes

Practical training your staff will actually use on shift.

Endeavour to Achieve delivers hands-on, scenario-based training, coaching and mentoring for children's home teams. Every course is tailored to your home and the young people in your care, by trainers who have worked the shift themselves.

Training that sticks past the next handover

Most staff training is easy to sit through and hard to use. We build it around the realities of a residential shift instead.

Slides, not situations

PowerPoint-led courses rarely prepare staff for a real incident at 2am with a distressed young person.

Off the shelf

Generic content doesn't reflect your home, your policies or the young people currently in your care.

Forgotten by Friday

If staff can't picture using it on shift, it's gone before the refresher comes round.

Hard to evidence

Managers need training that shows up in practice and in conversations with inspectors, not just on a certificate.

How our training is different

  • Built around your home. We tailor each course to your setting, your policies and the young people you currently care for.
  • Practical, not PowerPoint. Realistic scenarios and hands-on exercises, so staff practise what they'll actually face on shift.
  • From people who've done the job. Our trainers have worked in residential children's homes, including as a Deputy Manager, and bring that experience into every session.
  • De-escalation first. We focus on understanding behaviour and maintaining dignity, with restraint used only as a last resort.

About us

Meet Gareth

Gareth knows what a shift in a residential children's home really looks like. He has worked as a Deputy Manager in a children's home, and before that served as a firefighter.

That experience shapes every course Endeavour to Achieve delivers: practical, realistic and built around the young people your team looks after. As one Fire Marshal delegate put it, his passion "shone through, making this course stand out from any other".

What delegates say

Feedback from managers and care staff who have attended our courses.

This two-day course was one of the best I have attended in this subject area. The instructors demonstrated excellent knowledge and understanding, and the course flowed well while covering every key area. Endeavour to Achieve also tailored the delivery specifically to our home. A great course with excellent instructors. I would highly recommend it.

The Endeavour to Achieve team made this course thoroughly enjoyable, engaging, and informative. It was a refreshing alternative to the usual PowerPoint-led training. I especially appreciated how the content was tailored to our home and the young people currently in our care. I am already looking forward to the refresher course.

The instructor's experience as both a former firefighter and a deputy manager of a children's care home was evident throughout the delivery. Gareth's passion shone through, making this course stand out from any other Fire Marshal training I have attended.

An excellent and highly practical course that gave me a much clearer understanding of behaviour and the importance of using de-escalation before physical intervention. The trainers created a safe, supportive environment and explained each technique clearly, helping me feel more confident in responding appropriately and safely.
Residential Care WorkerUnderstanding Behaviour, Physical Intervention & Restraint
An excellent and highly relevant course that strengthened my confidence in the Designated Safeguarding Lead role. The trainers explained complex safeguarding responsibilities clearly and used realistic scenarios to show how the guidance applies in practice. I left with practical knowledge that I can use to support both staff and young people in our home.
Responsible IndividualDesignated Safeguarding Lead
The course was engaging, informative, and directly relevant to our work with young people. I particularly valued the focus on understanding the reasons behind behaviour, maintaining dignity, and ensuring that restraint is used only as a last resort. The practical sessions were well delivered and have strengthened my confidence in managing challenging situations.

This course was both enjoyable and informative. It was refreshing to attend annual training that kept us engaged and eager to participate. We particularly valued the practical exercises, which encouraged us to consider what a fire in the home would really be like.
